The Keizer Fire District responded to the report of a house fire shortly before 6:30 pm Sunday evening. Upon arriving at the house, firefighters observed smoke and flames coming from the front of the home.
The call reporting a house fire on Spring Leaf Ct N in Keizer was received at the Salem 9-1-1 center at 6:29 pm. The first unit arriving on scene reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the single family home.
One occupant had been asleep in the home at the time of the fire and had to escape past the fire in the living room, as she was unable to escape out the window.
Five engines, three medic units, one air rig, two duty officers and two fire investigators with 24 firefighters responded to the incident. Salem Fire and Marion County Fire District both assisted with the fire.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Damage is estimated at $150,000 for the structure and $30,000 for the contents of the home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There was not a working smoke alarm in the home.
District officials would like to remind residents that they should always check their smoke alarms to ensure they work properly and to have an exit plan for escaping their home in case of a fire.
