The Keizer Fire District responded to the report of a house fire shortly after 3:00 pm today. Upon arriving at house located on Marino Drive N, firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home and backyard.
The fire was called in by a passerby as no one was home at the time of the fire. Firefighters were on scene for over an hour extinguishing the fire that had extended into the house.
Four engines, one medic, and one duty officer with 14 firefighters responded to the incident. Salem Fire Engine 3 assisted with the fire, while an engine and medic unit from Marion County Fire District was at the station to cover other calls. There was no estimate of damage to the home or contents at this time. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
District officials would like to remind residents that they should always check their smoke alarms to ensure they work properly and to have an exit plan for escaping their home in case of a fire.
